The Strange Game

In the morning mist

The forest stands

In the valley of the rift

Where it all began

We stood by the fire

With an empty hand

And a burning desire

To walk the land

Each step we took the earth would quake

The trees would fall and the mountains shake

We crawled up cliffs till our fingers bled

With a beating heart and a pounding head

At last we stood and the distance stared

But we’re still only half the way there

And we’re still only half the way there

Now the flowers wilt

And the forests dead

The cities are built

The rivers red

We stand by the flames

With a grasping hand

Playing strange games

We don’t understand

Each step we took the earth would cry

The mountains crumble and the oceans sigh

We covered the valley with wounds and scars

A place of shame on the road to the stars

And all the toil and tears that we shared

But we’re still only half the way there

And we’re still only half the way there

Galaxies of wealth

And Worlds forsaken

Stripped of everything

That could be taken

We stood in the heavens

Shaking our fists

Knowing there’s something

That we might have missed

Nothing has stopped our journey’s goal

We’ve given our lives and sold our soul

And out of the mists where it all began

In the valley of the rift the silence stands

At the edge of space we stood and glared

But we’re still only half the way there

And we’re still only half the way there
